Meet Your Instructor

Daniel Karambelas serves as Artistic Director (and Founder) of MIST. Daniel first discovered improv at ImprovBoston in 2014 and has been dedicated to the craft ever since. After graduating from the IB Improv Program and performing around Boston with a variety of indie teams, Daniel took the leap and followed his dream to Chicago in 2016. There, he graduated from the iO and Annoyance Improv Programs, as well as Second City's Writing and Conservatory Programs. He was lucky enough to study under greats such as Susan Messing, Mick Napier, Adal Rifai and the late Noah Gregoropoulos (amongst countless others). During his time in Chicago, Daniel performed on the Harold Teams Hometown and Slice at the iO Theatre and put up his Solo Show More Like Lovable Winner at the Annoyance Theatre. 2020 brought Daniel back to New England where he re-immersed himself into the Boston improv scene. Performing at Union Comedy in Somerville with the House Teams Carmelo and Milkshake. Since moving to Maine, Daniel has dedicated himself to cultivate all the love and knowledge of longform improv he has has learned and honed over the years, and sharing it with Portlanders has become his favorite thing.

Our Story

Maine Improv Studio (MIST) was born with a single Intro to Longform Improv class offered in September of 2024. Since then, a 4-Level curriculum has been implemented and the theater now features 3 House Teams. MIST's foundation is rooted in the philosophies and ideals Chicago-style longform improv holds. Specifically, that means scenework rooted in relationship, performances based in ensemble and group-mind, and forms that push the boundaries of a format itself, focusing more on organic moves and ideas. Daniel has taken everything he learned in Chicago and Boston and has implemented it into the framework of MIST. Outside of our 4-Level Longform Improv program, there is a variety of ad hoc Workshops being offered and the near future will hold a Sketch Program amongst other additions to the pillar of our Training Center.
